Are Online Casinos Legal in Florida?
Florida law does not expressly legalize or regulate internet casinos.
However, many Floridians access offshore online casinos that accept players from the United States such as the ones listed here.
*Please note: Americans located inside a state with regulated online casino gaming should NOT play at offshore internet casinos and should only play in state regulated web based casino websites.
These Florida friendly casinos are typically licensed and regulated by jurisdictions outside of the U.S., such as Panama or Curacao, ensuring they operate fairly and transparently.
However, it’s always crucial to check the current state law or consult with a legal professional before engaging in online gambling activities.
The legal landscape around US online casinos can shift quickly, and it’s essential to make sure you’re operating within the law.

Florida’s Online Gambling History
Florida’s legislation regarding gambling has seen a long journey, with numerous bills and regulations undergoing discussions for years. The legislative process has often been challenging, with slow progress and legal hindrances standing in the way of implementation.
Here’s a glimpse into the chronology of significant occurrences in Florida’s gambling legislation history:
On August 29, 2022, Florida’s Attorney General appealed to the court to reverse the verdict from November 2021 that stalled the gaming agreement between the Seminole Tribe and the state.
A few days earlier, on August 26, 2022, the Attorney General, along with others, expressed their backing for reinstating the gaming agreements with the Seminole Tribe that Florida had made. They appealed to the federal court to reverse the previous ruling from November.
On July 8, 2022, the federal court turned down the agreement signed between Governor DeSantis and the Seminole Tribe in November 2021. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit established a brief hearing timeline concerning the dispute over sports betting in Florida. This argument was centered around the legitimacy of the agreement the Seminole Tribe had with the state, leading to the decision on sports betting in FL being postponed until 2023.
Earlier, on September 1, 2021, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and the Seminole Tribe had agreed on a deal allowing the Tribe to conduct retail and online betting.
In 2021, the Seminole Tribe received approval from Florida lawmakers to exclusively conduct sports betting in the state. However, this agreement is currently at a standstill due to numerous ongoing lawsuits.
In 2020, Florida State Senator Jeff Brandes made an attempt to legalize sports betting by introducing a bill. The Seminole Tribe, however, hindered his efforts.
Back in 2018, Amendment 3 was approved by Floridians through a referendum. This law necessitates a vote across the state before any extension of gambling laws can take place.
